Abstract

Introduction: Male infertility may account for almost half of all cases of infertility. This is commonly linked to compromised sperm characteristics, such as shape, concentration, and motility. Recent studies have suggested a role for calcium-binding proteins, including Calbindin 2 (CALB2), in spermatogenesis and male reproductive function. Aim: The purpose of this study was to assess the association between male infertility in cases of oligozoospermia and asthenoteratozoospermia and seminal Calbindin 2 levels. Patients and Methods: A case-control study was performed on 90 men (45 infertile, 45 fertile controls). Semen parameters, oxidative stress, hormone levels, DNA fragmentation, acrosin activity, and seminal CALB2 levels (via ELISA) were evaluated. Results: CALB2 levels were reduced in infertile men compared to controls (control: 5.58ng/ml; AT: 3.38 ng/ml; OAT: 2.28 ng/ml; p
